I am currently Lab-Head of Solar Thermal Vacuum Engineering Research Group, Senior lecturer and Course Director. I studied BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering, MSc in Mechatronics, PhD in Renewable Energy in Buildings (Vacuum Insulation) and PGCert in Teaching Qualification. I am Chartered Engineer and Fellow of Higher Education Academy having Qualified Teacher status by GTCS UK. I teach BEng/MSc modules and supervises BEng/MSc/PhD students. I demonstrate excellence in Teaching and Supervision practices. I am open for PhD student applications in Renewable Energy. I led a range of external engagement projects and organised and chaired international and national conferences at LSBU.

I’ve multi-disciplinary research/academic experiences in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy and Solar Thermal Vacuum Engineering. My research experiences are on: energy-materials for vacuum-insulated-smart-windows to net Zero Energy Buildings; vacuum based photovoltaic solar thermal collector; applied semi-transparent photovoltaics and electrochromic films; translucent vacuum insulation panel; renewable energy technologies; thermoelectric devices for energy harvesting applications with vacuum-insulation; smart-grid integration to electric-vehicles with fast charging battery mechanism and; harvesting the concentrated solar irradiations to useful electrical energy.

I published over 60 research articles in the form of journals, book-chapters, patent-provisional, conferences, book-editor, newsletter and magazines. I secured funding from H2020, Innovate-UK, The IET/IMechE Engineering-Education-Grant-Scheme EEGS, DAIWA-Anglo-Japanese, Royal Academy of Engineering participation and Newton-Fund participation grants. I lead international collaborations, holding editor-in-chief, guest editorial and reviewer roles. I’m honoured as invited speaker in numerous conferences/workshops and presented research findings and developed collaboration with researchers in the UK, Europe, USA, UAE, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Pakistan, Malaysia, Kenya, Peru, South Africa, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, China and Hong Kong. I am the founder and Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Solar Thermal Vacuum Engineering with international collaboration of 14 countries worldwide. I was an Editor-in-Chief for the book on Advanced Thermoelectric Materials for Energy Harvesting Applications, it attracted worldwide collaborations. I’m a Guest Editor in Sustainability on a special issue of Renewable Energy and Advanced Smart Vacuum Insulations Technologies for Zero Energy Buildings (2019-2021). Also, I’m a Guest Editor in Energies on a special issue in Applied Solar Thermal Energy (2020-2021).

I demonstrated my excellent track record in Teaching and Supervision practices throughout my academic career. I developed and led a project that engaged local London Engineering students on Solar Car Challenge, as part of The IET IMechE Engineering Education Grant Scheme. I also organised and chaired international and national conferences. I was also the founder of DEEE Society at LSBU for students’ academic engagement. I have outstanding volunteer contributions throughout my academic career, such as: I contributed to the society as vice-chairman of The IET Young Professionals; elected Executive Officer at Staffordshire University Students’ Union; elected committee member of Postgrad Taught Students at NUS UK; elected vice-chair at Loughborough University Postgraduate Association; elected honorary secretary and committee member at Vacuum Group Institute of Physics; and many more volunteer roles I held and served the UK community. I am recognised reviewer of over 20 prestigious journals by Elsevier, Springer, IEEE, Taylor & Francis and MDPI publishers.

• Worked as a lead technologist and proposal writer for the following European Commission H2020, TSB (Technology Strategy Board) projects, this involved research, project management, technical, commercial and business development of the IP(Intellectual Property) protected projects.

• The first H2020 project proposal I lead was recycling of hard-to-treat post-consumer textile wastes and conversion to insulation material for building construction using a novel conversion technology. I designed this project proposal to scale up, develop and commercialise a manufacturing process for converting currently unusable post-consumer contaminated fibre waste from carpets and mattresses to a value added thermal and/or acoustic insulation for use in the building & construction industry. This proposal has achieved successful funding of €50,000 for the feasibility study.

• Design and commercial fabrication of automated vision system for monitoring, quality evaluation and digital communication based data interpretation of fruits and vegetables.

• Ripeness check of apples and citrus fruits by developing an automated system design capable of non-destructively testing both the firmness and sugar content of fruits.

(EPSRC Funded-CALEBRE Project-EP/G000387/1)

• Undertook research which was part of the EPSRC funded CALEBRE (Consumer-Appealing Low Energy technologies for Building Retrofitting) project in the UK. The overall aim of the project was to establish a validated and comprehensive mechanism for reducing UK domestic carbon emissions that is acceptable and appealing to users. I researched on the WP3.4 Vacuum and Aerogel Insulation Components in which:

• Designed and developed a high vacuum glazing systems laboratory at Loughborough following all health & safety regulations. This includes a modified design of vacuum chamber that can seal the vacuum glass at higher (500˚C) and lower (150˚C) temperatures, this also reduces the risk of dislocation of the heating block and the degradation of O rings due to continuous heating with the pump-out hole evacuation.

• Fabricated low-temperature and high-temperature sealed vacuum glazing units by developing novel hermetic glass-sealing materials and methods. I led this challenge independently with the guidance of my supervisor and delivered high quality research at the patentable quality and is also applicable at the manufacturing level in the UK.

• Developed 3D heat transfer finite element models for the predictions of the thermal performance, developed building dynamic thermal models for comparatively analysing the potential of retrofitting triple-vacuum glazed windows to a solid wall dwelling by investigating the space-heating, heat loss, solar gain and window-to-wall area ratios.
