I am a senior lecturer in Digital Business and Data Analytics at the Business School. I started as a contracted lecturer for the Computing department teaching software development. I then moved to the Business School, focusing on the use of technology to support and transform businesses.
Teaching and researching at LSBU is something I am grateful for and proud of. I am passionate about helping our students grow and transform to become what they really want to be. Every academic year I look forward to meeting my students who I have taught, and those who have just started their courses.
Since the completion of my PGCHE course, my research activities has been focusing on 'Assessment for Learning' (Afl), and how it can be used as an approach to support students learning experience.
My aim is to focus more on 'Assessment for learning' (AfL) than on 'Assessment of Learning' (AoL), through the use of an assessment strategy that employs different methods of assessing students learning and experience throughout their academic journey.
The intention is to differentiate between AoL, focusing on assessing what has been learned at the end of the learning process, and AfL where the focus is on assessing through the learning process. For example, using different types of formative feedback (FA), e.g. peer-feedback, self-feedback and two-way feedback between tutors and students.
Research has shown AfL motivates students to become more active, involved and independent during their learning, challenging the belief that if there are no marks allocated then students will not do the work, hence, creating an engaging and productive learning environment for our students.
