Academic staff

I am a photographer and exhibiting artist based in the School of Creative Arts and Industries. I continue to teach across a number of photographic courses with a special interest in increasing diversity and social inclusion.

I started teaching at LSBU on the B.A. photography course in 2010 as an HPL. Following my degree at University of Westminster, I taught in a number of community-based organisations such as Blackfriars Photography Project that facilitated, through the use of photography, social campaigns around housing, mental health and racial/social equality issues. I teach visual anthropology practice at Goldsmiths college and also work as a freelance photographer in the commercial sector.

My interests follow two main paths: exhibiting my photographic and film work that expands on ideas of belonging, migration and identity and promoting inclusion and diversity in higher education. I aim to bring both of these interests into the classroom in order to encourage student development, confidence and ambition especially for those whose backgrounds do not include family history within higher education.

Currently I am developing an exhibition around identity, belonging and nation using archival film and footage. Whilst this has been a continuing theme over many years, I have found it has particular resonances with students allowing cross dialogues around areas such as sustainably, equality, human rights and international issues. I am also working on two writing pieces: autoethnography and land ownership and the Front Room and its particular resonance to heritage and family history.
