I teach Building Information Modelling (BIM), structural analysis, and earthquake engineering in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I am coordinating a programme in my School for helping staff achieve Advance HE teaching qualifications. I am also one of the university conciliators and an academic integrity coordinator.

My research is broadly in the area of structural mechanics, including structural behaviour of steel cables, flexible offshore pipes, steel fibre reinforced concrete, and steel tubular joints.

During my PhD study, I developed a theoretical model for coupled axial/torsional stiffness of various types of steel cables used in bridges, cable cars, for offshore mooring etc. Following this, I did experimental testing and calculations in two consultancy projects at Imperial College.

I supervised research on bending stiffness and hysteresis of offshore flexible pipes, composed of layers of steel wires and plastic sheaths, used as risers that transport oil from the wellhead to the tanker.

I tested 2x2m steel-fibre-reinforced concrete slabs resting on the ground in our structural laboratory.

I also supervised a PhD study on estimating joint flexibility in oil platforms.

Recently, my interest is in measuring oscillations of flexible structures using smartphones, for code compliance and integrity checking.
