I joined LSBU in 2016, where I am Senior Lecturer in Film Practice, and Year Level Co-Ordinator for the first year of the Film Practice BA. I am also Chair of the Screen Research group. I have previously worked at the University of Essex and Coventry University, and I hold a BA (First Class Hons) and an MA (Distinction) in Film from the University of East London. My PhD in affect and narrative cinema was funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. I am an associate editor for the journal Screenworks.

My main research interests are Film-Philosophy and Film-Practice, affect and tone in narrative cinema, documentary film, and experimental moving image practice. My films are regularly screened nationally and internationally at film festivals and academic conferences. I am the recipient of both the European (Milan, Italy) and the North American (San Francisco, USA) jury prizes for documentary practice from the Association for Consumer Research. My latest research project, Husband and Wife was shortlisted for the BAFTSS practice as research awards for Audio-Visual Practice-Research.

My film practice has received funding from the National Lottery and Channel 4, The Arts and Humanities Research Council, The Leverhulme Trust, Team London GLA (Mayor of London), and The Capital Foundation Trust: Grassroots Fund.

Screenworks

Screenworks – the peer-reviewed online publication of practice research in film and screen media, edited by Dr Charlotte Crofts (UWE Bristol) and Associate Editors: Will DiGravio (The Video Essay Podcast); Shweta Ghosh (PhD Candidate at University of Reading); Catherine Gough-Brady (PhD Candidate at RMIT, Australia); Dr Matthew Hawkins (London South Bank University); Dr Alexander Nevill (Nottingham Trent University); Dr Estrella Sendra Fernandez (SOAS, University of London and Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton). Screenworks publishes practice research that produces new knowledge in Communication, Media and Cultural Studies, Art and Design, Performing Arts and related fields. We offer a forum for the dissemination and discussion of practice research that includes space for reflection on research contexts. Work is published alongside a research statement, which offers a ‘route map’ of the research process, together with two anonymous reviews, which provide critical feedback on both the work itself and its research context.
