I am a South African filmmaker and educator currently based in London. I am a Lecturer in Film and Television Practice in the School of Arts and Creative Industries at LSBU. I hold an MA (Hons) in Economics and English Literature from the University of Edinburgh and an MA in Filmmaking from The London Film School.

My research interests include: media anthropology, hybrid cinema, forensic approaches to images and sound, phenomenology, spatial systems, time-based practice, machine vision, AI systems, collective experience, statecraft, territory and the possibilities of film form.

My work explores the intersection between non-fiction modalities and traditional forms of narrative cinema. My films have shown at numerous international film festivals and have screened at institutions such as the Barbican Centre in London, the Chicago Cultural Centre and the Tatham Art Gallery in South Africa. As a director my debut feature film 'Siyabonga' made its world premiere in the main competition of the 71st Locarno Film Festival and went on to play extensively around the world at cinemas, film festivals and art galleries. To date the film has won 8 awards and received over 80 nominations internationally. I am a Berlinale Talents alum and in 2019 was endorsed by Art Council England as an exceptional talent in Film and Television. I serve as the co-founder of the media production company Other People which I run with Korean-American artist and filmmaker Michelle Cho.

Currently I am in the final stages of completing a new feature film entitled 'The Space Between Islands', a documentary-science-fiction film that examines the network of human and non-human relations occurring in an public parkland where a future metropolis meets a forest.
