I am the Professor of Building Services Engineering in the School of The Built Environment and Architecture. I am also the Director of the Centre for Civil and Building Services Engineering (CCiBSE). Previously, I worked periodically as a lecturer, senior lecturer, reader and professor at Brunel University London and the University of South Wales. I gained my BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from Xi’an Jiaotong University (BSc, MSc) and Tsinghua University (PhD) in the field of Thermofluids, Energy , Hydrogen and Built Environment.
I have accumulated over 20 years of research and development experience in Built Environment, Energy Conversation Technology, Hydrogen and Thermofluids. I have unique skills in modelling development for buildings, different energy systems and components. I have also developed a CO2 transcritical compressor model which has been used by a famous commercial software ‘Energy Plus’. Many of my heat exchanger design software has been utilised by companies across the UK. In addition, I have developed a supermarket energy control system model which has been widely recongnised. I am currently leading some research projects funded by EPSRC & Innovate UK such as ‘H2-Heat: Thermal energy transport for heating and cooling with innovative hydrogen(H2) technologies. EP/T022760/1. EPSRC funding award with a total value of £979,291 (2021-2024)’, 'A Safe and Efficient, Low-Cost, High-Pressure Metal Hydride, Hydrogen Storage Solution. Innovate UK Smart Grants: January 2022, Project number: 10033836. The total value of the project is £1,029,423 (October 2022-September 2024)'. As a principal investigator (PI), I have obtained more than £3.67m of research funding to support my various projects. As a Co-investigator, I have also contributed to and been involved in a number of funded research projects with total values above £11.3m. So far, I have supervised more than 10 Ph.D. students and a number of post-doctoral research fellows. Furthermore, I have published over 130 peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference papers. Externally, I am the vice President of IIR Commission E1 (International Institute of Refrigeration), appointed in 2015. I have been also the committee member of a number of international conferences.
