I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts and Creative Industries and a former Somerset House Studios Resident Artist (2017–2023). Previously, I directed the BA (Hons) Photography program at LSBU (2021–2024) and have taught art and photography since 2003. An award-winning artist, my work spans photography, sculpture, drawing, performance, and public works, focusing on the crowd as object, process, and model of collectivity and transformation. My survey show, 'Crowd Theory: Simon Terrill', was held at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne (2019), and 'The Brutalist Playground', a collaboration with Assemble Studios, was commissioned by RIBA, touring internationally (2015–present).

My work has been exhibited in museums and public galleries internationally, including the National Portrait Gallery London, Vitra Design Museum, Royal Academy, Nunnery Gallery, Royal Institute of British Architects, Samstag Museum of Art, National Gallery of Victoria, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, National Trust Ernő Goldfinger Museum and QUT Art Museum. It has featured in The Guardian, Wallpaper, Art+Australia, Art Monthly, BBC, photographies, The Big Issue, Realtime and Meanjin amongst others. Awards include The Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship and National Gallery of Victoria Trustees Award. I’ve received grants from Arts Council England (2010, 2016, 2020) and Australia Council for the Arts (2002, 2009, 2018). I am represented by Sutton Gallery Australia.
