I am the Course leader and a Senior Lecturer in Acting and Performance in the School of Arts and Creative Industries. I joined LSBU in 2016 having previously worked at Goldsmiths, University of London on BA, MA and PGCE courses in theatre, education, and children’s literature. Before that I was a Producer and the War Horse Education Manager at the National Theatre.

I am passionate about theatre and education. I have directed and project-managed extensively in Britain and internationally. At the NT, I specialised in producing mid-scale UK tours, focusing on Brecht with actor-musicians.

My research began in participatory theatre and conflict resolution for primary school children, focusing on immersive and forum theatre. This project used drama and storytelling to give the participants a language and various tools to help them in moments of conflict in their every day life. Alongside this, the work investigated young audience choice and abilities and willingness to make choices in certain given situations. I wrote a paper on this project I carried out with a south London school for Arts Praxis in 2021 (Ingleson, D. (2021). Picture other voices: A conflict transformation drama project. ArtsPraxis, 8 (1), 185-199.)

My research now has evolved from this into a study of mindfulness, theatre and pedagogy. I am interested in and I pursue a mindful approach to teaching and learning and I explore what mindful acting is and I relate inclusive practice to this methodology. I have written an article for Stanislavsky Studies Journal on Stanislavski actor training and Mindfulness and am continuing to explore this in further depth over the next few years. I convened a symposium on this subject at LSBU in March 2023 and I am now working on an edited collection entitled Stanislavsky and Mindfulness as part of the Stanislavsky and . . . series published by Routledge.
