I am currently the Course Director for the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) MSc Human Resource Management and the BA Business Management with HRM and I specialise in teaching Human Resource Development at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. My main interest is in developing students to be able to progress into the professional area of their choice, and I am passionate about ensuring that our students have the relevant skills to enable them to do this successfully.

I originally started my career in Marketing working for the Sun Alliance Group and the mortgage arm of Lloyds TSB. On moving to Philips Electronics I began working in their Learning and Development department and become a freelance trainer and consultant. I have carried out projects for private, public and voluntary sector clients including Age Concern UK and the NHS. In addition to working full time I started teaching on the CIPD programmes as a part time lecturer and subsequently completed my teaching qualification. I have taught professional qualifications including the CIPD, ILM and CMI with a major client being the London Underground, before joining LSBU as a visiting lecturer.

My commercial experience also included working for Business Link as a Corporate Business Adviser, supporting the South East Coast Strategic Health Authority, and Surrey County Council as part of the government remit to develop the skills agenda for large employers within the public sector. This involved setting up apprenticeship programmes and working with the relevant providers and sector skills councils to develop learning programmes.

I have continued to develop my own skills alongside working in Higher Education and most recently been awarded Recognised Practitioner in Advising (RPA) from UKAT, the United Kingdom Advising and Tutoring association.

Currently I am developing the learning materials for the newly validated Business Professional module. This has involved building relationships with external businesses and alumni to offer a live case study to our students.

EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES

After many years as an active member of the South London Branch of the CIPD I have recently been made an honorary member.
