I am a Senior Lecturer in Education and teach on the BA Education Studies and on the EdD. I am Director of Post Graduate Research Studies (DPGRS) for the School of Law and Social Sciences (LSS). I am also Year 2 lead for BA Education Studies.
As a sociologist of education, I explore ideas of democracy, citizenship and dialogue in relation to education. I am interested in how these interrelate with critical pedagogy, education for sustainability and climate justice. Recent research projects, in universities and schools, have included exploring student voice, student rent strikes and deliberative classrooms.

• Planning and teaching seminars on the BA Education Studies
• Research on privatisation and child poverty
• Developing strategies, briefings and submissions to influence policy
• Supporting Prof Stephen Ball’s research projects on academies and global philanthropy
• Contributing to the evaluation of the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms programme through face-to-face and phone interviews with school leaders, teachers, pupils and policy makers from across the UK
• Facilitating two groups of first year doctoral students at the Institute of Education to discuss and develop their research proposals
• Tutoring students on the Distance Learning BA in Informal Education (Youth Work and Community Learning and Development) through facilitating study days, marking essays and providing tutorial support
• In autumn 2012, lecturing on ethics and education module
• Analysing policy, formulating policy stances and successfully influencing education policy-makers
• Carrying out and commissioning research on education policy and practice
• Developing a policy discussion paper, ‘Questioning Education’, around education for a just and sustainable world and working with member organisations and policy makers to develop and work towards policy recommendations
• Supporting DEA members with their schools work.
• Co-ordinating booklets on 'The Global Dimension to ....' various curriculum subjects with relevant subject Associations.
• Co-ordinating the 2005 revision of the government's 'Developing the global dimension in the school curriculum'
