I am a Professor of Communication systems in the School of Engineering. I received my PhD in Physics from the University of Essex. My interest in low-power and remote sensing schemes led me to adaptive optical-wireless systems research and the development of smart strategies for inherent physical networks, in particular a world-record with BT research on lowest power broadband systems for last mile access broadband. My team and I investigate wireless systems, remote sensing, non-wearable technology, and imaging for a number of applications in both the health and energy sectors.
I have extensive experience in remote sensing, low power systems and applied AI for communications at small and large-scale project level. In particular I enjoy working with collaborators on problem-solving and inventions related to real time systems in energy and health.
Highlights include
i) a £1.6M Smart innovate UK grant for high resolution remote monitoring systems and predictive fault-finding in UK solar farms, with far-reaching possibilities beyond the UK market.
ii)lead LSBU academic on a €2M International Network Grant ROVER: RELIABLE TECHNOLOGIES AND MODELS FOR VERIFIED WIRELESS BODY-CENTRIC TRANSMISSION AND LOCALIZATION, investigating new platforms for wireless and AI in the medical sector.
iii)A green, connected and prosperous Britain (GCPB) is a successful 24-month £1.1million Network Plus (N+) project aimed at promoting, investigating and driving digital connectivity across urban and rural areas by synergising 5G (and beyond), the renewable energy sector, green innovations and end users.
The value proposition generated from this network is for a massively integrated urban-rural model, comprising real-time applications for enriching sparse measurement data through the application of digital twins informed by real data; scenario simulation appropriate to validate and refine policy for future energy, telecoms, mobility and carbon systems; benchmarking of digital communications and net-zero innovations at the pilot study stage. The team is always looking for partners in this space so please contact us at https://www.greenconnectedbritain.org/.
I have secured over £10M worth of projects at UKRI, EU and IUK calls and have over 100 technical journals. I am also a reviewer for IEEE, MPDI and Elsevier journals.
