My research area correlates with my teaching and to a considerable extent is inspired by my students.

My principal areas are EU asylum law and aspects of legal education.

Some of my research, like my teaching is collaborative, working with colleagues in the UK, and, on Erasmus funded or related projects, working with colleagues in the EU.

In relation to EU asylum law, I am interested in the intersection between human rights advocacy and the challenges of national politics. Specifically, I look at this through the prism of temporary protection mechanisms, past and present. Engaging with the work of leading commentators, many of whom wrote, seemingly conclusively, about this area in 1990s, I seek to test and review their conclusions in relation to current and future challenges. I have collaborated with colleagues across the EU and have written and worked with international colleagues on Erasmus funded projects.

My legal education research focuses on the impact of Brexit on law curricula and the route to qualification for non law graduates. In relation to the former, I am interested in understanding how law schools value teaching of EU law with two game-changers, Brexit and SQE. I research how SQE impacts the market for trainee lawyers.

My research is based upon engaging with ideas of key influencers as well as collaborating with teaching and research colleagues in the sector.
