I am a Visiting Professor of Applied Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Division of Computer Science and Informatics. This role is sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professors scheme.
I am an ex-published scientist, an advisory board member and multi-award winning entrepreneur. I am currently the Founder of a privately backed consumer goods brand and was previously an Entrepreneur-in-Residence in HE and for early-stage high-growth ventures. I was previously trained as a Bioengineer and Academic Researcher having studied at University College London (UCL) and Yale University as an Applied Scientist although quickly transitioned into the world of business having run a Biotech start-up, building novel microparticles for controlled drug delivery (my first company; MicroSpray Technologies; a VC- and Angel-backed company). My company was a venture backed startup which raised subsequent rounds of investment from a Venture Capitalist group based in New York and was the most active life science backer at the time. My transition into the world of business was aided by a prestigious Enterprise Fellowship awarded by The Royal Society of Edinburgh, allowing me to move from academia into the world of business and entrepreneurship.
Currently, I am an Industry Advisory Board Member at University College London (UCL) where I offer Enterprise Education advice and build programmes that promote enterprise amongst the student and academic population. Additionally, I am a Royal Society-sponsored Entrepreneur-in-Residence at University of the West of Scotland (UWS) London where I lead The Greenhouse Business Incubator Programme in addition to mentoring and supporting early-stage founders/companies to spin-out and startup new ventures from the University. My professional experience is complemented by achieving BEng (Hons), MSc, MRes, PhD and Master of Enterprise (MEnt) qualifications. The latter is a dual-taught and research business programme at the Alliance Manchester Business School and is recognised internationally in applied enterprise and entrepreneurship teaching.
