I am a Senior Midwifery Lecturer in the Department of Health and Social Care, Nursing and Midwifery. I specialise in Newborn and Infant Physical Examination, Normalising Midwifery Care, Neonatal Care, and I have been involved in research. I have several years of academic leadership, publications and as a speaker at conferences. I currently teach across Pre-registration curriculum for the 3 year and shortened programmes.

I am a module lead for Normal Midwifery Practice, level 6, teaching: Reflection on normal midwifery practice, Physical, psychological, cultural and socio-economical influence on normality, Policy drivers, evidence, guidelines, and professional guidance, Critiquing the definitions of high and low risk pregnancies and births to name a few. I am also a module leader for Foundation science knowledge and practice level 1, teaching the functioning of the human body and focusing on the structure and function of all systems at a preliminary level. It presents an opportunity to explore essential concepts such as the organisation of the body, homeostasis, anatomy and physiology, necessary to underpin midwifery practice and as a basis for learning the fundamentals of pharmacology.

I have several roles, Cohort and Module leader,Personal tutor and link lecturer. Each role is fundamental in supporting students to develop a professional role in practice, midwifery knowledge and research. It is essential that I enable students to question their own thoughts and practice, to debate and experiment with current and topical issues, appreciating and assimilating other paradigms that help to widen their knowledge.

I act as a role model to other health professionals working in education as their mentor. I also contribute to constructive discussions on assessment processes, feedback structures and student abilities throughout the academic years.

I have also recently taken over the lead in recruitment for both the short and long programme. Therefore, I work closely with the admissions office and ensure the midwifery team are prepared to undertake interviews during the recruitment period. I support internal and external recruitment for midwifery and engage with marketing to raise the midwifery profile.
