I have lectured on the Chemical & Extended Degree Programmes in Engineering at LSBU for over 30 years and was Course Director for 13 years. I have been a member of the Foundation Year Network for 13 years; this is my 8th on the executive committee and 7th as Honorary Treasurer. I was elected board member for the Engineering Professors’ Council in May 2019 and am also the their Engineering Education and Employability Skills committee. I am a Senior Fellow of the HEA and my research interests focus on WP, mature students, FY studies, student support and technical subjects across engineering.
Research interests: Fire and Explosions, Spontaneous Combustion, Combustion, Calorimetry, Pressure Vessel Design, Polymers and Carbonic Acid Corrosion in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Academic pedagogy, widening participation, mature students, foundation year studies, student support and technical engineering subjects, particularly for foundation level university students.
Teaching specialties: Engineering Principles, Mathematics, Materials Science, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Solid Mechanics.
I am an SFHEA and have over 30 years of teaching experience, considerable knowledge and understanding of HE and student-facing activities. I have been immersed in teaching, learning, course management, and planning across the engineering and applied science disciplines. I have had several quality roles and have previously been an external examiner at six HEIs. I have sat on many internal and external course programme validations and have had various committee and panel responsibilities.
My pedagogic experience spans delivery from foundation year to post-graduate level and hence I have an appreciation of the whole learning environment, student experience and challenges from many starting points.
I have carried out engineering consultancy in external materials testing, for hospital breathing apparatus manufacturers and worked as a contract mechanical designer in the high pressure gaseous pressure vessel design area, for the calorimetry field.
