I am an academic entrepreneur who has always found his Teaching, R&D and Enterprise activities working hand-in-hand to produce innovative technologies to solve social and business problems. I migrated to the UK under Highly Skilled Migrant status in 2001 and since then I have worked with several organisations in the UK, EU and Asia, both in Academia and Industry. My research interests include 5G, B5G,6G, Smart IoT and FPGAs, Blockchain, Collaborative Cognitive-Communication Systems, AI-enabled Recommendation Systems and Chatbots.

I have won the Tutoring the Prize Winner award twice from Association of Business Executives (ABE) UK, first for tutoring the prize winner in Computer Fundamentals (2005) and the second in the Information System Project Management (2010) module. I have been principal investigator/co-investigator and project coordinator for more than 10 internationally teamed R&D and capacity building projects funded by International R&D organization including Innovate UK, Horizon 2020, Erasmus, British Council, ICT-R&D FUND and HEC.

In 2007 upon winning an EPSRC Doctoral Training Award, I joined Kingston University as a full-time student and completed my Ph.D. in the area of Open Source Communication Networks in 2010. In 2009, I implemented my Ph.D. output using specially designed ARM architecture-based mobile FPGAs hardware with XScale microarchitecture and commercialised it through SwanMesh Uk Ltd. In 2011, during my Job at the University of Gujrat, Pakistan, my R&D Project “A Dual Radio Wireless Mesh Network” was awarded as “High Profile University Academic Research Project with Economic Impact” by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan and was selected by the Government of Pakistan for Country Representation to showcase it as the country’s most innovative project at the International Exhibition on "Science, Technique and Innovation Technologies in the Epoch of Great Revival, held at Ashgabat on June 12-14 in Turkmenistan.

I have also contributed to several consultancy projects in UK and China including a world-first digital airport trolley called cTrolley developed by Chigoo which is operational in several airports worldwide.

I actively volunteer to provide my support for capacity building initiatives overseas to contribute to the UN's Global SDGs. I have served as Member Board of Governor for the UN’s Independent Monitoring Association for Child Labour (IMAC) program set up to the elimination of Child Labour from the Sailkot’s soccer ball industry in Pakistan. I have served as a member on several capacity-building committees overseas including Member of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan’s Committee of Experts to finalize the National Policy on Research Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Member Technical Sub-Committee for the Establishment of Technology University, Sialkot Pakistan, Member National Committee for Building Knowledge and Skills In Pakistan: Developing Doctoral Provision in State Sector Universities (An initiative of British Council Pakistan) and a British Council’s Active Citizen Programme. I served as a Regional Focal Person for PUM Netherlands to link Dutch professionals to the regional industry in Pakistan who voluntarily devote their rich expertise in creating a better world.

Dr. Iqbal designed and implemented a novel vCDN called Swan-CDNaaS while extending my SwanCloud work using Python and Java API. It provides self-healed, self-managed and self-deployed Cloud and Mobile Edge Computing based on IaaS network and PaaS management models for mobile users with load-balancing as a service functionality.I also investigated and implemented QoE and QoS policies and protocols to improve Swan-CDNaaS performance for mobile users.

Cloud Software Developer
University of West of Scotland

Dr. Iqbal was responsible for investigating, designing and implementing a cost-effective optimized cloud Computing Framework for Optimized Congestion Aware Rate-Adaptive Multimedia Communication for mobile users. The cloud framework was designed and built on an innovative federated cloud computing model. Dr. Iqbal designed, developed and implemented a Middleware JMS API to provide broker messaging for communication and data exchange in a multi-site cloud environment.

The cloud framework was implemented to support the world-first digital airport trolley called cTrolley developed by Chigoo Interactive Technologies (an industrial project partner in China), which is operational in several airports worldwide.

Education
Associate Professor of Computer Science
University of Gujrat, Pakistan

Dr. Iqbal joined the University of Gujrat as Assistant Professor in 2010 and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2011. During his Job at the University of Gujrat, besides his basic research and teaching responsibilities as an academic staff, he also held the following additional administrative responsibilities.

Director Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology:

He was responsible for research, teaching and enterprise operations and quality for three departments in the faculty which including Computer Science, Software Engineering and Informaiton Technology.

Director Office for Research Innovate and Commercialisation:

During his tenure as Associate Professor at UoG, as an additional assignment, He established the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at UoG. Out of 100+ Universities in Pakistan, 30 Universities established such office through financial support from the world bank and higher education commission to make Research a top priority for sustainable economic growth and a future knowledge economy through the establishment of ORIC. Upon acceptance of the proposal by the HEC to establish the office at the University of Gujrat, He took the assignment to establish ORIC. In 2014, during third-party validation carried out by World Bank my office was ranked amongst the highest W-ranking, top-performing ORICs in the country. Out of 30 ORICs established in Pakistan, nine (09) were found to be the top performers including ORIC-UoG. ORIC-UoG achieved the highest score in the capacity building category during this same third party evaluation (25 out of 25).

Director, Software Development & Maintenance Centre

He was responsible to head the center which developed and implemented a Learning Management and informaiton System to serve 18 thousand students studying at 5 University Campuses and 1000+ employees of the University of Gujrat.
